Job Description:
- Tutor-Mentors will provide part-time instruction in English, Math, or other subject areas to help increase the academic level of performance for participants
- Create and manage a learning environment in which all students are treated equitable and with respect
- Utilize innovative, effective, and equitable tutoring techniques that will maximize learning and understanding of subject areas
- Work with students to promote personal growth and achievement of student's educational goals
- This position is funded 100% by a PBI grant from the U.S. Department of Education
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Must be able to demonstrate the proven abilities of intellectual reasoning, power of persuasion, and consistent dedication to the position
- Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills are required
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical interference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety on instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Computer Skills: Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Publisher, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) is required
- Ability to learn to operate College-specific software and applications such as BANNER, LOLA, and CANVAS
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Criminal Background Clearance
- Other qualifications: Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with a demonstrated ability to multi-task
