Job Description:
  • Tutor-Mentors will provide part-time instruction in English, Math, or other subject areas to help increase the academic level of performance for participants
  • Create and manage a learning environment in which all students are treated equitable and with respect
  • Utilize innovative, effective, and equitable tutoring techniques that will maximize learning and understanding of subject areas
  • Work with students to promote personal growth and achievement of student's educational goals
  • This position is funded 100% by a PBI grant from the U.S. Department of Education
Qualifications:
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Must be able to demonstrate the proven abilities of intellectual reasoning, power of persuasion, and consistent dedication to the position
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills are required
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical interference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety on instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Publisher, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) is required
  • Ability to learn to operate College-specific software and applications such as BANNER, LOLA, and CANVAS
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Criminal Background Clearance
  • Other qualifications: Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with a demonstrated ability to multi-task
