Job Description:
- Position maintains and repairs automotive equipment, including heavy, diesel powered machinery, for a municipality
- Determines source of problems, replaces alternators, water pumps, power steering/hydraulic pumps, fuel pumps, hoses, brake pads, belts, fuel filters and related
- Services and repairs gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems and related
- Tests operation of equipment
- Replaced injectors, filters, belts, replaces fluids, coolant
- Instructs mechanic's helper in more routine tasks of oil changes, air filter replacements, checking tires and similar tasks
- Maintains the maintenance shop, inventory of tools and frequently needed parts
- Performs related work as required
- Work requires manual desterity, strength, normal vision, hearing and speaking ability, as well as physical agility to access and apply strength in confined spaces and at odd angles
- Frequent lifting of up to 110 lbs., climbing, equipment operation and physical exertion is characteristic of this position

Qualifications:
- A valid Louisiana driver's license is required
- Must also meet the general requirements of the City's auto insurance company
- Training in automotive mechanics or supplemental working experience in the field of automotive maintenance is required
- Desired is completed High School or equivalent, working experience with heavy equipment, and/or possession of a valid Louisiana Commercial Driver's license
- Must pass the civil service exam, the post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing
- Must be a qualified registered voter and submit verification with the application
