Job Description:
- Responsible for management of the MPCS Wellness Center, and working with clients in a manner that is consistent with our mission to help families fight, survive, and live with cancer
- Plan and implement exercise and wellness classes for cancer clients:
- Assessment of new clients including intake, medical/cancer history, recording vital signs, teaching target heart rate and RPE, setting goals, and creating individual exercise plans
- Assist clients with individual exercise plans, update exercise plans as needed, and record progress
- Conduct re-assessments of established cancer clients
- Teach and provide handouts on fatigue management, nutrition, or lymphedema when appropriate
- Fax and document physician approval, and follow-up with client for program appointments
- Teach group exercise classes (dance, Pilates and Yoga) and/or schedule classes with instructors. Plan guest series classes quarterly
- Document all client visits in MPCS client database
- Maintain client confidentiality in documenting records and reporting outcomes for possible grants or studies
- Manage wellness programs year-round:
- Schedule and coordinate massage therapy and Reiki monthly and document visits in client database
- Schedule, plan and promote quarterly Nutrition Classes for MPCS clients
- Research latest cancer wellness information for bulletin boards, website, and client handouts
- Create quarterly wellness e-newsletter
- Maintain regular Nutrition 365 Blog
- Manage Wellness Center Facebook group
- Plan and/or deliver Lunch and Learn sessions quarterly for MPCS employees
- Manage MilesStrong groups (8 week cancer rehabilitation program):
- Schedule interviews and assessments for group participants
- Plan 8 week classes according to the group needs: organize guest speakers or interns when applicable, prepare and copy handouts, facilitate sessions
- Record progress in client chart and database
- Conduct re-assessments at sessions end and send progress letters to referring physician
- Maintain the Wellness Center facilities, including managing the opening and closing procedures
- Promote the MPCS Wellness services to cancer clients, physicians and the general public
- Follow-up with clients and physicians’ offices to answer questions about Wellness Center programs
- Manage quarterly mailing to potential wellness clients
- Attend special MPCS client events such as nutrition classes, National Cancer Survivors Day, etc.
- Manage UL interns from departments of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health Promotion
- Plan projects, provide feedback and complete evaluations as needed
- Responsible for other duties assigned by the Services Director
- The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, an ACSM certification as Health Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer, and a CPR/AED certification
- Experience working with special populations such as cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is desired
- Pilates and yoga certification is a plus
- Candidate should have strong interpersonal and communication skills along with good leadership and management skills
